Statement by Calderdale Interfaith Council and Calderdale Council of Mosques

Calderdale Interfaith Council and Calderdale Council of Mosques have issued the following statement in the light of recent reports in the media relating to alleged cases of child sexual exploitation.

Reverend Canon Hilary Barber, Vice Chair of the Calderdale Interfaith Council and Nadeem Mir, spokesperson for Calderdale Council of Mosques said:

“Calderdale Interfaith Council and Calderdale Council of Mosques totally condemn any form of exploitation or abuse targeted at the vulnerable in our society. There is no religious justification for this type of behaviour; it is simply abuse. Sexual exploitation and abuse demean all humanity.

“No abuser or groomer should feel safe to hide their activities within their community. Our hearts go out to those affected by such immoral behaviour; our thanks go to those caring for them and to the Police and others within the community who protect us."
